As 2007 winds down, it is time to start thinking about the 2008 events and classes you or your guild are planning! As you make these plans, be sure to include a marketing plan, too.  Remember, it does no good to invest time (and money) planning your class, meeting or retreat if you can't invest the time to market to your target audience.  Here are some ideas to get the ball rolling for you:

  • Make sure you plan well in advance of the event and be sure to check secular and religious calendars for any holiday conflicts. Also check local community event and arts calendars for conflicts.
  •  If you are planning an ongoing event, such as a monthly meeting, etc., be sure your venue can accommodate your group each month.
  • Send out a press release to the local newspaper, arts council, chamber of commerce (or similar business organziation).
  • Create a small poster and get local businesses, especially those frequented by your target audience, to display them prominently.
  • Create a  business card that gives the details of your organization's purpose and meeting schedule and give them to all your members for distribution to interested parties.
  • Assign one or two people to market your event online: making announcements and posts on bulletin boards and forums, adding the event to online calendars , seeking out related organizations and asking to have your event inserted in their upcoming newsletters, etc.
  • Do some public demos at bead and craft stores...it's a great way to introduce the public to polymer clay and drum up new members or attendees
  • Have your members display information about your guild or arts organization in their booths at art and craft shows
