The Houston Polymer Clay Guild will proudly host renowned clay artists Karen "Klew" Lewis and Lynne Ann "River Poet" Schwarzenberg at our Houston Lone Star Retreat 2007. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from not one but two talented clay artists in the same, fun-filled week-end. In addition to classes and demonstrations there will be a silent auction, drawings for great stuff and goodie bags for everyone. Plans for a challenge are also in the works. This fantastic event will take place at the South Shore Harbor Resort in League City, Texas on February 23,24, and 25. The resort is situated on the banks of Clear Lake and the huge, well-lighted classroom overlooks a lovely marina. The fee ($150 for HPCG members or $175 for non-guild members) includes three delicious, sit-down meals. Attendees who bring their spouses/significant others can purchase a meal package ($75) that will allow them to eat with the group. Everyone will attend one hands-on class and two demonstrations with each artist. No one will have to choose what to miss! The classroom will be set up to allow the artists to move from one group to another so participants won't have to change seats for each class. Klew's hands-on class will cover translucent canes. Her demonstrations will be "Wire 101" (tips and tricks for pendants, errings and beads) and "Bead making" (designing and shaping) River Poets hands-on class will show how to make faux birch wood boxes. Her demonstrations will be "Stained glass with polymer clay" and "Tips and secrets for layers-translucent canes". There will be plenty of free time to practice what you have learned and enjoy the company of other attendees. South Shore Harbor is giving Retreat attendees a special room rate of $104 a night. Find a roommate and save 50%! As of today we are 50% booked which leaves only 35 spaces available. If you would like to attend but do not wish to pay the whole fee now, you can reserve your space with a $50 deposit and pay the balance on or before February 1. Once the limit of 70 reservations has been reached we will have a "stand by" list in case of cancellations.
