Wild Acres is the SFMS sponsors five Gem, Jewelry and Mineral workshops each year. These are held at Wildacres, near Little Switzerland in North Carolina, and at the William Holland Retreat near the small town of Young Harris in northeast Georgia. A broad range of courses related to the lapidary arts are taught by qualified instructors from throughout the Federation. All instructors are volunteers who are not paid for the highly skilled and professional experience that they bring to the workshops. Classes this session include advanced metal, gem ID, raku beads, silversmithing, cabochons, fused glass, casting, digital photography and more.
Barbara A. McGuire is a nationally acknowledged artist whose diverse talents include works in polymer clay, painting and jewelry design. She has written 10 books on design and instruction and has developed stamps, templates and molds for artists working in polymer and metal clay. Barbara has appeared as a regular guest of the popular Carol Duvall show. Her work reflects a strong influence of traditional design incorporating innovative materials and collected artifacts. She lives in Buford, Georgia and teaches throughout the country at shows, stores and in her home studio.
